Expression Engine and Amember registration form and dynamic membership
I need help finishing a site I created at peopleinneed.info. This is a new non-profit where we are connecting people who want to help with people in desperate circumstances (to begin with, in Haiti). Basically, I have been unable to figure out how to connect the sponsors with the sponsored people on our ‘Life page' (http://peopleinneed.info/index.php/lifefile/main/).
Here is my plan about how to do this. When the sponsor registers (at http://peopleinneed.info/index.php/site/join/), there should be a custom field which is automatically filled in with the username of the person they are sponsoring (I think this requires basic php). After, when they go to the ‘Life page,' they see their own information and the information from their sponsor (and no one else's). The way their partner's information is displayed is through getting the username of the sponsor from the custom field in their member profile (this could use the exp:member:custom_profile_data tag). The people at Expression Engine provided a solution to the latter part of this problem at http://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/73946/#367234, but it didn't work for me and I don't know php and can't fix it. There is just some small error that needs to be fixed. Also, the picture of the sponsored person needs to be displayed on the right sidebar (below the picture of the sponsor).
A complicating factor is that I am using Amember for the commerce module. This requires that registration actually happens on the amember site. The member registration information is automatically updated on the expression engine site. So it seems that what I need is to actually modify the signup form at amember (http://www.peopleinneed.info/amember/signup.php) to include the username of the sponsored person. (One additional factor is that I want the username to be automatically set to be the email address. I contacted amember and they said they are now updating my site for this.)
There is plenty of documentation about most of this, including adding special fields to the amember signup page, on the forums of amember and expressionengine, but it is a bit beyond my capacity. I don't think it's too complicated or time-consuming, though, for someone who knows these programs!
Afterwards I'll be looking for a qualified expert for finishing the site, making it more sophisticated, and updating it.
Thanks!
Geoff
